Actually, I would think that the most energetic part of your life is under the age of 9. Man, kids can run all day without getting tired. But yeah, point well taken.

It's fair.
I think the bottom line in physical education is staying fit for life. According to stats, North American kids are overweight, not so healthy, lalalalala. By stiffening the system, ur level of fitness can be more precisely assessed. And like ya said jon, u need training. Go to the gym, play more outdoors, do ur pushups when u can. These are oppourtunities to be healthy. U need these outlets to stay healthy. Additonally, u need these marks to pass. The marks are attainable and their standards are accurate. If you're unfit, u fail. If ur healthy, u pass. It works: be fit and pass.
Physical education as such gives kids a motivation to make exercise/fitness apart of their lifestyle. Get their time figured out so that they can balance work and exercise. God knows u can't run 20 laps around a soccer field in 12 minutes without training. But u can with. Another thang: "the teen years are a time when u are the fittest/most energetic of ur life". If u stink now, its gotta be serious cardiac fatty issues when ur like... 35. So, make the treadmill etc. apart of your life. If ur not gonna do it for u, do it for the grades.
So, forcing kids to be fit is for their own good. The marks are a motivation.
